Sumit completed her BA majoring in political science at the University of Otago. She later completed her Bachelor of Laws at the University of Canterbury, graduating in 2014. She was admitted to the bar in 2015.
After university Sumit worked at the Ministry of Justice for seven years in the criminal jurisdiction. She later went into private practice and joined a well-respected firm in Christchurch doing predominantly criminal and family litigation work. Sumit joined Corcoran French in February 2021 and is part of the Family Law team. She specialises in relationship property, contracting out agreements, parenting disputes including applications to the Family Court under the Care of Children’s Act and Family Violence Act proceedings.
Outside of work Sumit loves hiking, playing playing table tennis, spending time with her two wonderful daughters and husband Rodi. Sumit is also an active member of the Christchurch Indian and Pacific community.
