Michael's practice spans commercial law, business transactions, property law, rural matters, subdivisions, business succession planning, trusts and estate planning. He is known for delivering pragmatic solutions and building long-term relationships with his clients as trusted adviser through all stages of business and personal wealth management.
Before joining Corcoran French in 2016, Michael practised in litigation and insurance. Following the Canterbury earthquakes, he was extensively involved in insurance and earthquake-related disputes, appearing regularly in the District Court and High Court, as well as the Court of Appeal. This litigation background gives him a valuable strategic perspective when advising clients on risk management, dispute avoidance and complex legal issues.
In addition to his legal practice, Michael has extensive governance experience. He is currently a Director of Rangitāne Holdings Limited and an external member of the Audit and Risk Committee for Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke (Rāpaki). He has previously served as a Trustee of the Rātā Foundation, a Board Member of St Thomas of Canterbury College, and Chair of the Ellesmere Rugby Judiciary.
Michael is committed to supporting the communities in which he works and lives, and values building strong connections with local businesses, organisations and Iwi entities.
Outside the office, Michael is married to Bianca and is the proud father of a young family. When time allows, he enjoys rugby, hunting, golf and spending time with family and friends.
