Hannan & Seddon

Hannan & Seddon joins forces with Canterbury law firm Corcoran French.

Tony Sullivan and Colin Smith, partners of the firm Hannan & Seddon, are delighted to announce that Hannan & Seddon has amalgamated its practice with Corcoran French from 1 April 2021.

Tony and Colin have been working with the partners of Corcoran French to secure the future availability of legal services in Greymouth and the wider West Coast, together with continued employment for their staff.

There are existing strong ties between the two firms, as one of the partners of Corcoran French, Martin Bell, was a partner in Hannan & Seddon for 13 years from 1987 to 2000, while he lived on the West Coast.

Hannan & Seddon will continue to trade with the same familiar name, as a division of Corcoran French.  Location and contact details won’t change, nor will the familiar friendly faces of the Hannan & Seddon team.

What will change is that Hannan & Seddon will have increased backing and support from the larger Corcoran French team in Canterbury, which includes specialist expertise in areas not previously available in Greymouth.  This wider range of commercial and business law advice together with dispute resolution and litigation services available means that Hannan & Seddon’s clients won’t need to look elsewhere for those more specialised services.

All of the Partners of Corcoran French will work closely with Hannan & Seddon, alongside Tony and Colin. In particular, Shehan de Silva and Michael Bendall will be regular visitors to the coast and able to meet clients locally, but also will be available on the phone and through other means from their Christchurch and Kaiapoi offices.

Corcoran French and Hannan & Seddon are both well-regarded law firms.  Corcoran French has offices in Christchurch and Kaiapoi, North Canterbury, and can trace its origins back to 1892.  Hannan & Seddon operates from Greymouth and started in 1867.

This combination of the two firms means that Corcoran French, operating now from Christchurch, Kaiapoi and Greymouth, will have a team of around 70, with lawyers covering just about every legal need you would have.  In addition, we’re part of NZ LAW, an alliance of independent law firms throughout the country.  This provides the added ability to tap into any other specialist needs required as well as the ability to access a friendly law firm in another town or city, when needed.

If you have any questions about how this may affect you, please contact Tony, Colin or your usual Hannan & Seddon or Corcoran French legal advisor.
